BAWA is a non-profit organization based in Bali. For 4 decades our founder, Janice Girardi has been rescuing animals and providing life saving care. In 2007, BAWA was legally formalised with the mission to save, protect and improve the lives of all animals, with great attention given to the indigenous Bali dogs now on the verge of extinction. BAWA runs many programs such as: 24/7 ambulance and hotline service, spay-neuter and rabies vaccination (Animal Health days), animal welfare education program for children in public schools daily – reaching over 75,000 school children each year. We educate and help communities in Bali to help their animals when no other help is available or affordable for them. We run disaster prevention and disaster response programs across Bali and other islands when disasters strike. From earthquakes to volcanic eruptions, to landslides and even a tsunami, we rush to help. Our award-winning One Health programs address both animal and human health, providing a roadmap to eliminate rabies from Bali and advocating for regulations to prevent cruelty, such as the dog meat trade.

Every day BAWA teams rescue abandoned, sick and injured animals, who are brought back to health either in clinics or BAWA’s rehabilitation and adoption centres. It’s a necessity to run shelters and rehabilitation centres however BAWA’s vision is one where each village in Bali is its own natural sanctuary for animals; where all animals are routinely vaccinated, healthy, cared for, and treated with compassion and respect. All of BAWA’s programs are based on donations which are vital to be able to continue saving lives day after day.

Bumi Sehat Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free, high-quality maternal and child healthcare since 1995. Founded by midwife Robin Lim, Bumi Sehat operates 4 clinics in Indonesia—located in Bali, Aceh, Papua, and Lombok—and 2 clinics in the Philippines. The foundation offers a holistic approach to healthcare, combining traditional wisdom with modern medical practices. Its services include prenatal and postnatal care, safe childbirth, and health education for underserved communities. Bumi Sehat is committed to empowering families, improving maternal and child health, and fostering a healthier and more sustainable future for communities in need.

PKP Community Centre  aims to promote women’s empowerment and gender equality for Balinese women and those in surrounding areas. It achieves this by offering job skills training and support programs, such as cooking and English classes. Most importantly, the center provides a safe space for separated women, who often face significant stigma and social exclusion within their communities. The job training programs offered by PKP have been proven to alleviate financial stress for families.

These programs benefit the entire village, as families can use the additional income to invest in education, nutrition, and other essential needs. This additional source of income also creates better opportunities for their children, paving the way for a brighter and more successful future.

Villa Kitty
Enter the world of Villa Kitty Foundation in Tegal Bingin Mas.

Founded in 2009, Villa Kitty became a sanctuary for Bali’s abandoned cats and kittens. In 2011, it moved to a larger 3,500-square-meter space in Banjar Tegal Bingin, Mas. Today, Villa Kitty is a vibrant sanctuary where feline and canine residents are cared for, loved, and prepared for adoption.

Key facilities include The Graduates pavilion and Anggun’s House, surrounded by gardens, offering a safe haven for cats. The Playground & Learning Centre hosts study groups, monthly vegan Sunday lunches, and celebrations like Villa Kitty’s birthday. The Mothers Rooms provide secure spaces for mother cats and their kittens, while the Sun House and Central Park house vaccinated and sterilized cats ready for adoption.

The Nursery cares for tiny kittens until they are vaccinated and moved to Quarantine. The Kitten Kindy, Momo’s Room, and the Bale serve as adoption centers for playful, loving kittens. The Hospital includes isolation rooms, a respiratory ward, and an annex for older or FIP-affected cats. A temporary Clinic and Surgery ensures proper care as Villa Kitty works to build a dedicated facility.
